Setting up the perfect bath

If you’re at the end of a long week, nothing sounds better than a long hot bath. You can ease your aching muscles, soothe your tired mind and just help decompress from the activities of the week so that you can enjoy your time off and away. But depending on what you need, there are many ways to create that oasis in your bathroom. Here are three of the most popular ways to create the best bath in town.

When your muscles are aching

Even if you’re not a professional athlete, you might find that your muscles are aching at the end of a long day or week. They’re tired and possible still tense from being at a computer or standing on your feet for your job. For these kinds of pains, you’ll want to start a warm to hot bath (as hot as you can stand it without scalding yourself) that uses Epsom salts or some other kind of mineral additions. What these ingredients will do is draw out any impurities from your muscles and help to relax them. Some experts believe that when your muscles tense, it’s because you’re building up too many chemicals that your body can’t process quick enough. When you add salts to your bath, you can start to create equilibrium between your muscles and the water, alleviating the pain. And the hot water helps to soothe the muscles as well. However, some people should not use Epsom salts due to water retention, so check with your doctor if you’re concerned.

When you’re trying to relax

Sometimes it’s not your muscles that need to relax, but rather your mind. Aromatherapy baths can be an excellent way to start soothing frazzled nerves. Simply run a warm to hot bath and add a few drops of your favorite essential oil. This can include lavender, ylang ylang, or vanilla, if you like. Whatever scent feels calming to you, try to incorporate that into a bath for your body as well as your mind. As you sit in the bath, you will be able to immerse yourself in the scent that you have chosen and that has been shown to reduce your overall anxiety levels as well as blood pressure. You can also try to add a bag of chamomile tea to your bath for a calming effect as well.

When you just want to escape

There’s nothing like a good, old-fashioned bubble bath. When you’re stressed out and just want to retreat to your childhood for an hour, take out a bottle of your favorite body wash and add it to a running bath. Bubbles can surround you and help you feel like you don’t have a care in the world. Try to stick with soothing scents that can help to add some more relaxation to your time as well.

A bath might not be something that you have time for, but it’s certainly something that you should make time for. A little relaxation goes a long way to making everything all right.
