Benzoyl Peroxide
This line is sometimes also referred to as the Jan Marini Therapeutic Line. The product line is based on research that shows that benzoyl peroxide is an extremely effective ingredient to fight acne. Even the American Academy of Dermatology recognizes that benzoyl peroxide works well with mild to moderate acne cases. In some cases, it even works well with severe acne, however, if it is a case of cystic acne you will need to consult a dermatologist for additional treatments.
Benzoyl peroxide works to kill the bacteria that cause the acne breakout. By reducing the bacteria colonies, the skin has a chance to heal. However, benzoyl peroxide is also known to be especially drying on the skin. Jan Marini has developed a range of products in several different concentrations to treat the acne without overdoing the harsh effects of benzoyl peroxide lotions. Her line has both a 5% and a 10% acne cream with non-comedogenic emollients that don’t clog the skin. The line also includes a special benzoyl peroxide wash, which has a 2.5% concentration of the active ingredient. A wash is necessary to clear dead skin and sebum that can clog the pores, before applying the benzoyl peroxide acne-fighting lotions. If the skin is prone to excessive oiliness, it can help to reduce that shiny appearance as well.
All these products may seem confusing, so Jan Marini offers a 3-step program it calls the Teen Clean, however, anyone with acne can use it. It includes the wash, a choice of either the 5 or the 10% benzoyl peroxide lotion, and a 1-ounce tube of the Antioxidant Daily Face Protectant with SPF 30.
