Make Up Base
Correcting face shape with the aid of make-up base.
Make-up base.
Make-up bases are preparations which are the best in masking skin defects such as freckles, blotches, etc., as well as imparting better colouring of skin. There are several types of make-up bases, for instance cream foundation, foundation fluid, covering make-up foundation or transparent foundation. The make-up base is selected according to skin colour. While treating pale skin the foundation used is of the same colour and tinge as the colour of person’s skin. Skin of grey-and-yellowish or sallow colouring is brightened by applying pinkish make-up base. For very pale skin the best colour of foundation is of apricot or peach tint. Redness of skin and angiectasis can be masked applying foundation of beige tint. It is also possible, to some extent of course, to sculpt the face with the aid of make-up bases. Darker tints of foundation make parts of the face look smaller when bright tints make the face shape convex.
Foundation application technique.
Cream and fluid foundations apply with small spots on the whole face and neck, and then spread it carefully so that there are no visible differences concerning the tint on the borderline of hair and neck. Put the foundation very slightly, similarly to the cream, so that not to stretch or irritate the skin. Afterwards with the help of wet make-up sponge press the foundation down onto the face carefully in order to fix it better.
Where to put the make-up base concerning the shape of face?
Due to the tendency of correcting some defects of looks the foundation is applied in accordance with the type of person’s face, as follows:
- oval face – make-up base is spread evenly on the face
- round face – darken on either side of the face
- square face – darken areas of mandible angles
- trapezium/trapezoid shape face – darken areas of mandible, just like in the case of square face
- elongated face – lighten areas of mandible and cheek down from zygomatic (malar) bone and also forehead on temples
- triangle face – lighten cheeks down from eye socket borderline
- hexagonal face – lighten forehead and cheeks down from zygomatic (malar) bone.
Correcting the shape of face elements.
Nose, forehead, chin shape can be little corrected thanks to appropriate foundation application:
- too broad nose – lighten the centre line and darken the sides in order to gain impression of nose narrowing
- too long nose – darken the tip of nose thanks to what it gets shortening effect
- small and short nose – apply light foundation in order to highlight it
- pointed chin – darken the chin
- double chin – darken the skin from the chin up to the hyoid bone
- too bulging forehead – darken forehead to get the impression of flattening
- narrow and small forehead – put light foundation on the forehead
Remember to spread the foundation precisely while correcting face defects in order not to create a visible borderline between it and the rest of the face.
